Discussions in New Zealand commenced, with reference to the provision of a hospital ship in April 1940, but the final decision took until 10th January 1941, when the Union Steam Ship Company then decided to convert the MAUNGANUI into a hospital ship. The above photograph shows her berthing in Fremantle in 1943.
